Kalyan Majumdar is one of the leading Sitar Players of India of his generation. He is a regular artiste of National Telivision (Doordarshan) and All India Radio. He is an empanneled artiste of ICCR (Indian Centre for Cultural Relations), Govt. of India.
He is a regular performer in the professional circuit and has performed all over India and abroad. Some of the places where he has performed are Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS), Singapore Tagore Society, Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, Jalandhar, ITC SRA Sangeet Sammelan, Vadodara, NCPA, Mumbai, Winter Festival of India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, National Cultural Festival, Hyderabad, Girnar Festival, Junagadh, Dover Lane Music Conference (periodical), Kolkata and so on.
He is a recipient of the President's Award in Sitar. He has received several other accolades incuding the National Scholarship from Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. He has been conferred the prestigious Ravi Koppikar Memorial Award, 2015 by ITC-SRA (West), IFFA and Music Forum at Mumbai. He is also a recipient of The Telegraph Award, 2014, and many more.
He is an artiste of the Maihar Gharana and has learned from his father Pt. Subhajit Majumdar, Pt. Soumitra Lahiri, Padmabhushan Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta and Pt. Partha Chatterjee. He is a Senior Scholar of ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Kalyan has received rave reviews from leading newspapers of India such as The Hindu, The Statesman, The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Telegraph and many other leading regional (Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Telegu, etc.) newspapers from all over India. He also has a CD (“Moods and Melodies” from Sagarika Music) and a Music Card (“The Great Indian Sitar” from Times Music, alongside Pt. Nikhil Banerjee and Utd. Shahid Parvez) to his credit.
