Having been born in a musical family, Reena had very naturally imbibed the art of music and thus, was introduced to sitar playing by her illustrious father Pandit Rabi Chakraborty, an eminent Sarodia of Maihar Gharana. Her natural talent and extensive training together with careful nurturing has developed Reena into one of the finest Sitarist’s of her generation.
Reena’s introduction to the big stage first came her way when she was only 9 years old in the year 1970. She was then already recognized as a child prodigy and was accompanied on Tabla by Pt. Mahapurush Mishra. Thereafter, there was never looking back for Reena.
She was often seen on stage, be it for competitions or performances and each time she mesmarised her audience and came out with flying colours.
Her performances earned her rave reviews not only in India but also abroad. Her extensive tour all over India and abroad has earned her fame and recognition in Europe, USA and Canada as well as in her Motherland.
Reena has performed in almost all major festivals in India and abroad starting from the Dover lane Music Conference to the Chester Summer festival and Bath festival in UK – to name a few.
Performances aside, Reena also has a number of releases to her name in the form of CD’s and Cassettes where she has performed as a duet companion with her brother, Dr. Rajeeb Chakraborty, one of the leading Sarod players of our country, and this unique Sitar/Sarod duet has already been well accepted globally.
Reena’s unparallel execution and style has made her stand popular amongst music lovers and critics and have excited listeners all over the World.
