One of the leading percussionists of India, Subrata is an accomplished and versatile Tabla player from Kolkata, West Bengal. He is a soloist and an accompanist as well. He received his initial training from Sri Satyendra kumar Nath at the age of four. After that, he continued his training from Prof. Biru Chakraborty, a disciple of Pt. Samta Prasad. For his further grooming, the legendary Tabla Maestro Pt. Shankar Ghosh took him under his tutelage as a “GANDA BANDH” sagird. Subrata is extremely adept in producing all the other techniques and characteristic features of the Banaras and Farukhabad gharana both. He is a regular artiste of All India Radio and Doordarshan Kendra (Kolkata). He obtained Sangeet Visharad from Pracheen Kala Kendra (Chandigarh).
He is also a well-recognized and much wanted accompanist by most of the leading musicians and prestigious classical soirees all over the country like-

Subrata accompanied with a lot of well-known musicians like- Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan, Pt. Arun Bhaduri, Pt. Samaresh Choudhury, Pt. Ajay Pohankar, Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan, Pt. Shrikant Bakre, Pt. Jagdish Prasad, Vidushi Purnima Choudhury, Pt. Sohanlal Sharma, Pandit Kushal Das, Joydeep Ghosh and many others. Subrata is equally accomplished as a Guru. He has trained hundreds of students from all over the nation in his own academy DHYAN, an institute of Hindustani Classical Music since last twenty-five years. Now he is one of the faculty members of Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts, Kolkata. He conducted workshop and seminars on tabla in Asansol (West Bengal) & Ranchi (Jharkhand) in the year 1995 and 2011 respectively.
