Dripta Chakraborty is a bright and exponent classical dancer, adept in Odissi, Kathak and also, Rabindra Nritya. Gold medallist in her Odissi M.A., Dripta is currently pursuing her PhD in dance and sculpting new dancers in her own institute Anuranan. She represented West Bengal twice in the National Youth Festival of India, organized by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of India, in the field of Kathak (Chennai, 2008) and Odissi (Udaipur, 2011).
Learning: Dripta has been a sincere disciple of her Gurus Smt. Sangita Chaki, Shri Giridhari Nayak and Dr. Puspita Mukherjee. Dripta has attended several dance workshops and came across eminent dance maestros: Pandit Birju Maharaj, Smt. Saswati Sen, Smt. Moly Roy, Dr. Rina Jana, Dr. Mohua Mukherjee, Smt. Poushali Mukherjee, Smt. Bimbabati Devi.
Achievements: Earned a gold medal in Odissi from Nikhil Banga Sangeet Samity, Kolkata (2003). Gold medallist in Kathak from Sarbabharatiya Sangeet-o-Sanskriti Parishad, Kolkata (2005). Completed Visharad in Kathak from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow and Sangeet Visharad in Odissi from Prachin Kalakendra, Chandigarh (2009). Secured the first position twice in State Youth Festival, organized by Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of West Bengal, in Kathak (2007) and Odissi (2010).
Performances: Dripta has performed in various programs organized by Eastern Zonal Cultutral Centre, Kolkata a number of times. She has been a regular performer in Udayshankar Festival (organised by NBDGA, Siliguri), Siliguri Utsav, World Dance Day Program, Poush mela, Basanta Utsav etc. Also Performed in “Bangla Moder Gorbo”, organized by Govt. of West Bengal.
Television performances: Dripta is a regular performer in CCN network & Doordarshan. Also performed in Zee 24 Ghanta channel.
Choreographies: Besides instructing her students, she has also choreographed and staged several mentionable dance drama and short dance sequences, viz., “Chandalika”, “Tasher desh”, “Kalika Smaran – a tribute to Kalika Prasad Bhattacharya”, “Dao Phire Se Oronyo”, dance sequences in various Drama/Play, opening ceremonies of International Film Festival and Siliguri Natyamela. Besides, she has also choreographed in annual cultural programs of different schools in Siliguri.
Academia: Apart from all the above, Dripta has always been good in her academics too. She completed M.A. in English literature and is appointed as a teacher in New St. Johns High School, Siliguri.
Dripta has been teaching Indian classical dance forms to international students both online and offline from past few years.
