Sumedha Sengupta is a Graded Artist of Doordarshan Kendra, Kolkata. She is the recipient of Senior National Scholarship in Odissi Dance from Ministry of Culture, Government of India; Gold Medal from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh; Yuva Ratna Award; Nritya Shukla Jyoti Samman and Rajendra Deep Samman from various cultural institutions.
Sumedha has been receiving training under the tutelage of Guru Giri Dhari Nayak in ‘Odissi Ashram’, Kolkata for 23 years now. She has been performing all over India in various prestigious festivals organized by G.K.C.M Odissi Research Centre, EZCC, IGNCA, Guru Pankaj Charan Odissi Research Foundation, National Museum, etc. She represented India in Japan in an International Summer Festival organized by SCOT (Suzuki Company of Toga) in Toga, Japan as an Odissi performer. She is presently working as the Programme Assistant at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Regional Centre Ranchi under Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
She is the Dance Director of her own Trust - ‘Angan Foundation’ where she dedicates herself in dissemination and popularizing Indian art and Culture and also preaching the teachings of her Guru and imbibes the essence of Odissi dance into her students. She also served as the Cultural Committee Chair of Rotaract District 3291.
She choreographed and staged a dance drama 'Urmila - The Forgotten Heroine' under the assistance of Ministry of Culture, Government of India. She also engages herself in research and publication oriented works related to art and aesthetics.
